Our Neighborhood

The Gordon Square Arts District (GSAD) leverages vibrant arts and culture to foster economic growth and collaboration. Founded in 2007 by Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT), Near West Theatre (Near West) and the Detroit Shoreway CDO/Capitol Theatre, in 2014 GSAD completed a $30 million capital campaign that funded neighborhood beautification, added parking, created a CPT campus, reopened the long-shuttered Capitol Theatre, formed the first Special Improvement District in Cleveland beyond downtown, and built a fully accessible theater with passive-energy elements in its design, making it super-energy efficient.

The Gordon Square Arts District has become an economic cornerstone of Cleveland’s West Side, where a powerful combination of housing, new businesses, the arts and neighborhood beautification are sparking the development of new jobs for residents.

Leveraging the restoration of the Capitol Theatre, renovation of Cleveland Public Theatre, and the construction of the new Near West Theatre has led to more than 80 new businesses coming to the neighborhood since the start of the campaign and more than $500 million of investment in the neighborhood.

From galleries to boutiques to restaurants to live theater to a pinball gaming parlor, you will find plenty to experience in the Gordon Square Arts District!
